Every academic session at GSS begins from the first month of the Nepali calendar (April). The school has divided its academic session on quality basis. We have 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd terminal examinations after every three months time.
The school follows the government prescribed courses and adds the relevant and specific subject and materials from reputed private educational sector. It concludes the whole programmes in English medium but dedicates in our nationality, society, culture and language.
The Gangchen Samling School uses the universally recognized teaching system of Montessori at its basic level. In later grades it focuses on motivation, discussion, demonstration, observation, extra curricular activities, academic programmes, field excursion, assignments, presentation, seminar, exhibition, behavior study, dynamic and creative solution of various problems, etc. Prominent academic personalities, observers, advisors and others guide the teachers develop and follow better methods of teaching and promote their academic personality with best teaching skill. The School prefers reasonable teacher-student ratio and relation for creative interaction.
The school is keen not only in the education that children acquire from the book but it is also keen on learning broad-spectrum knowledge which is necessary for them in their life. So, we try to organize different activities that facilitate them to stand up to their level of confidence and self esteem. We have been organizing activities like spelling contest, quiz contest, elocution, debate, chess, mental mathematics quiz, etc. These activities have helped the student to become more positive and has helped to come up and converse about the facts that they know.
The Gangchen Samling School realizes that the entire school activities should be focused on mental, physical and academic development of the teachers as well as the students. The school has adopted activities like dancing, singing, playing musical instrument, karate classes and so on for the children's overall development.
Many westerners through the association of the program called “Help In Action” sponsor the majority of the students attending the school. Those remaining are sons and daughters of the workers from Samling Carpet Factory whose directors offer them free schooling. In this way child labour, so deeply rooted in pre-industrial society, is completely avoided.
The Gangchen Samling School has two of its own buildings. Each floor has a toilet and a well-filtered and processed drinking water facility to the children. The school has its administrative department and a well-equipped staff room for the teachers. The school has a small library with the variety of books that are necessary as supplementary materials for the students. It has a computer laboratory with 6 computers. Higher grade children learn the use of computer. The school provides the students with the necessary materials that they require to read, write and expand the horizon of their tender knowledge.
The school has a kindergarten section for the children above the age two. They are provided with milk and snacks everyday. The school is going to open a play school for the toddlers next year. |
